Poste Restante

Sri Lanka Post will hold mail for tourists and travellers at selected Post Offices. The words “To be called for” or “Poste Restante” means that the recipient will call at the Post Office to collect the mail addressed to him or her. You must identify yourself before you could take delivery of such articles.

Letters may not be re-directed from a private address to a Poste Restante in the same town, or from one Poste Restante to another in the same town.
All persons applying for Poste Restante correspondence must furnish sufficient particulars to prevent mistakes and to ensure the delivery of correspondence to the persons to whom it properly belongs.
Correspondence addressed to a Poste Restante is retained for a period of two months from the date of receipt in the case of a seaport town and one month in other cases.
Poste Restante correspondence, however, which are endorsed “If not delivered within …. days return to …. (the number of days should not be less than 7 or greater than 14)“ will be returned to the sender within the required specified period provided it bears the sender’s name and address.
