The postage on inland letters shall be prepaid by means of postage stamps affixed or impressed by a stamping die or franking machine.
The rates of postage on inland letters forwarded by means of road or surface transport shall be Rs.5.00 per 30 grams or part thereof.
Any article found in the letter post which may not be transmitted thereby shall, if admissible as a parcel, be transferred to the parcel post and surcharged at parcel rates of postage as a parcel irregularly posted.

Normal Post

Registered Post
Registration makes the transmission of an article more secure, as it passes through the hands’ of postal officers under special precautions. But the Post Office is not responsible for the loss of a registered article, or to any damage to the contents during transmission through the post. The risk of injury is diminished by the use of registration envelopes (sold at all Post Offices).

Parcel Post
Postage
The rate of postage on parcels is Rs.5.00 for the first 250 grams, and part thereof , up to a maximum weight of 10 kg. The fixed fee for the Parcels is Rs.10.00. Parcels must be fully prepaid.

Anything may be sent in a parcel, excepting articles the transmission of which is prohibited. A parcel may contain one (but must not contain more than one) written communication of the nature of a letter, or having the character of a personal communication provided that the communication is addressed only to the addressee of the parcel itself.
